Multi track recording for Guitars

Recording nowadays has expanded both its limit and its reach. Compared to what we used to do back in the days where we could only record a track and do it all in one go. The editing is difficult since you have magnetic tapes for recording and all you could do is cut and paste it by literally cutting and pasting it. Effects should be recorded on the recording day by using analog processors. Or that didn’t even exist yet that time. Good thing, technology is ever – growing and the digital age has given us methods of recording guitar tracks with ease and stuff.

Multi track recording for Guitars – how to do it

First of all, you have to acquire a decent PC that could run audio recording software. Then, you could either have a guitar amplifier, some microphones and a mixer with a USB audio interface or you could also plug your guitar directly to the PC’s line in jack using a 1/8th inch converter jack and use an amp modeler or a software that could simulate amplifiers, microphones, and stomp boxes. Most of the audio recording software has multi track features on it.

Multi track recording for Guitars – continuation

Record first track using an onboard metronome (most software has it). Then record the next track again with the first track as guide. Leave the metronome on for tempo / beat keeping purposes. And there you have it, a multi layered guitar track courtesy of a multi track digital recorder software. Pretty neat for something that costs cheap. Back in the days, you need to spend a fortune to get your stuff recorded.  There were no “home recording studios” back then. Everything revolves to the pro side of the recording industry. Now, we can have almost the same quality at a quarter of the price. Multi track recording for Guitars is now a possibility.
